Since the calendar flipped to 2025, the Vancouver Canucks have struggled offensively in a big way and that continued on Sunday night.

Rick Tocchet's group were in for a tough test on Sunday night as they took on the Dallas Stars, who added more offense in a trade on Friday, acquiring Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes and signing him to a long-term contract extension.
The Canucks managed only one goal in a 4-1 loss yesterday and that came from veteran defenseman Derek Forbort, who got his first since signing with Vancouver last summer.

Statistics highlight Vancouver Canucks' offensive struggles in 2025

Following their loss to the Stars, Sportsnet Stats on X shared a post that highlighted how poor the Vancouver Canucks' offense has been since January 1st.
The Vancouver Canucks currently sit dead-last in the National Hockey League in goals-per-game (2.19) and even strength goals-per-game (1.56), 31st in shots on goal per game (25.1) and 29th in shooting percentage (8.7) since New Years Day.
"Canucks since January 1st (With NHL ranks)

Goals / Game: 2.19 (Last)
EV Strength Goals / Game: 1.56 (Last)
SOG / Game: 25.1 (31st)
Shooting Pct.: 8.7 (29th)"
If the Vancouver Canucks aren't able to turn things around offensively in the next couple of weeks, it's going to be a real struggle for them and their hopes of making it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This season, the Vancouver Canucks have just one player with over 20 goals and that's Jake DeBrusk, who currently sits at 22, with Brock Boeser four back at 16 after having 40 during the 2023-24 season.
Elias Pettersson is one guy that they need to get going offensively in order to help with their playoff push and he's definitely shown signs of doing exactly that over the last seven days.
Vancouver will have a big opportunity to showcase what they're capable of offensively on Tuesday night against a Montreal Canadiens team that's allowed the ninth most goals in the NHL this season with 206.
