LATEST | Former Canucks & Coyotes defenceman is categoric: Arizona needs to be relocated
The Arizona Coyotes have had a fairly busy and rough week after the residents of Tempe voted against building a new arena/entertainment district, adding uncertainty the future of the franchise.
It was announced on Wednesday that the Coyotes will remain at Mullett Arena, home of Arizona State University, for the 2023-24 season, but after that it's unclear where they may be playing.
During an interview with Rick Dhaliwal and Don Taylor on the 'Donnie & Dhali' show, former Canucks and Coyotes defenceman Ed Jovanovski said that the team needs to leave Arizona and that it's not working there.
"Get them out of there. It has been happening for years, the league was signing my cheques when I played there. It is not working." Jovanovski said.
After seven seasons with the Canucks, Jovanovski signed with the Coyotes and went on to spent parts of five season in the desert, putting up 164 points in 332 games, where they made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his final two years with the organization.
Following the 2023-24 season, there's a very good chance that the NHL and Coyotes ownership will have no choice but to relocate them to another city, outside of Arizona. There are several cities that would like to have an NHL franchise, but the four most likely destinations for the Coyotes are Houston, Kansas City, Sacramento and Salt Lake City.
