LATEST | Insider reveals more details regarding Nichushkin's absence from Avalanche
Just prior to Game 3 of their series against the Seattle Kraken, Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin left the team for personal reasons and it's unclear if or when he'll return.
Several reports have been floating around regarding his absence including that he was taken to the airport in Seattle by security, but Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli has revealed some new details.
According to Frank Seravalli, Nichushkin's absence is because of an alcohol-related incident at the team's hotel in Seattle. He mentioned the news on the Halford and Brough show.
Nichushkin, 28, is in his fourth year with the Avalanche after signing with them in August 2019 following four seasons with Dallas. In 53 games, Nichushkin was nearly a point-per-game player, putting up 47 points (17 goals, 30 assists), two penalty minutes and was a plus-15.
After helping the Colorado Avalanche win their third Stanley Cup in franchise history last summer, the Chelyabinsk (Russia) native signed an eight-year extension worth $49 million that'll keep him in the Mile High City until 2030.
