LATEST | Long-time NHL defenceman passes away at age 75
Some sad news to report on in the hockey world this weekend as former National Hockey League defenceman Gerry Hart has passed away at the age of 75.
Hart began his professional career during the 1968-69 season in the American Hockey League with the Baltimore Clippers, but made his NHL debut that year with the Detroit Red Wings.
After four seasons with the Red Wings organization, Hart was selected by the New York Islanders in the 1972 Expansion Draft and became a fan-favourite during his seven years with the team.
The Flin Flon native went on to appear in 730 career games in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, Quebec Nordiques and St. Louis Blues, putting up 179 points (29 goals, 150 assists) and 1,240 penalty minutes. Following his playing career, Hart was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
Our thoughts are with the Hart family at this difficult time.
