Only steps from the Canucks' home ice lies the Lion's Den aka BC Place.
Now a decade removed from the most recent facelift, including a retractable roof, the 'new toy' excitement has long faded. This city, this franchise & this building needed a new reason to be excited.
Enter this year's edition of the BC Lions.
The 12-6 Lions host the Calgary Stampeders this Sunday at 1PM, complete with their sharpshooter Quarterback Nathan Rourke back in the lineup after having surgery following an August 19th foot injury. Rourke did return to play 1 quarter in the final game vs Winnipeg just to get some touches, with the Lions brass confident he's ready to go for a full 60.
Rick Dhaliwal had Lions owner Amar Doman join him & Donnie today to chat about not only the first home playoff game in Vancouver for the Lions in over 5 years, but the only playoff game for ANY Vancouver based sports team in over a half decade.
Let's hope this playoff fever can rub off on both the Canucks & Giants, we can throw the Abbotsford Canucks in for good measure.
Neatly tucked into this game week's news for the Lions was an announcement that they will also host the 111th Grey Cup in 2024. When speaking with Donnie & Dhali, Lions owner Amar Doman dropped this jewel of a quote ;
"So 2024 here we are, we are so excited about it. We put in, I would say, a knockout bid & it was received very well & the province has helped, our sponsors have helped and we're gonna make this 2024 one of the most memorable Grey Cups in BC history. With any luck, in the next couple of years, we're not only going to host. We're going to HOIST. So that would be fun as well."
Vancouver Island & Mainland Packages are being offered directly by the Lions, you can find out how to purchase yours
RIGHT HERE. Packages include your bus &/or ferry getting you over to BC Place, delivering you in time for the pre game party planned for the outer front mezzanine area.
