The problem in Vancouver, is being 32/32 on the penalty kill AND in overall points is a very bad place to be. It's even worse when you consider we are 1/8 of the way through this season, with playoff hopes dwindling already.
We have hardly stepped into November yet.
It hasn't mattered whether bonafide #1 Thatcher Demko is between the pipes, or young upstart Spencer Martin, hot streak aside. This team can't kill penalties, and while I won't place blame, the goalie DOES have to be the best penalty killer.
Today meant a chance to reset the PK, fresh off a drubbing of the fellow cellar dwelling Ducks of Anaheim. The facts tho, are that this team still allowed special teams goals while short handed, and surrendered 5 markers overall.
Not good enough.
One half of Sportsnet's Radio team Randip Janda tweeted this photo of the Canucks working on their 32nd ranked Penalty Kill.
Of interest to me, is that both Bo Horvat & JT Miller were watching the drills, instead of being on ice as they often are when a man down.
Tomorrow night Ryan Johansen & the Preds will bring a strong effort to a team looking to win 4/5 & change the narrative. A loss will do just that, making the Canucks 3-8-2 overall & that stat all but irrelevant.
