MAJOR | Gold Winning goaltender refuses to sign with his NHL Team: Will be re-entering the draft
This comes as bad news in San Jose as their depth chart lost a top prospect. Benjamin Gaudreau, one of the netminders who won gold in Canada's latest triumph at the World Juniors, was first selected with the 81st pick in the 2021 Draft.
Sheng Peng, a journalist from San Jose Hockey Now, Gaudreau refused to sign with the team in order to re-enter the draft next month. The star netminder's agent, Eddie Mio, came forward and confirmed the news:
"Because of what is developing with their goaltending prospects, we have decided to go back in the Draft."
The Sharks already had 4 other prospects already under contract and Gaudreau wasn't pleased with the situation. Gaudreau's junior career came to an end when his Sarnia Sting lost to the London Knights.
Gaudreau managed a 24-12-6 record along with a 3.07 GAA stopping 88.9% of the shots sent his way. His record went from good to excellent during the playoffs where he went 10-5 registering 3 shutouts.
Could the Canucks be tempted to go after him? Could he be a could prospect to back-up Arturs Silovs in Abbotsford?
