Canucks management had been sitting their veteran defenseman Luke Schenn for quite a while now since he was being shopped around and now a trade has materialized.

Patrik Allvin made the announcement earlier today that the Canucks had traded Schenn to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have been quite busy since the market opened and made major acquisitions in their quest to go through the 1st Round of the Playoffs. Ryan O'Reilly, Noel Acciari, Jake McCabe, Sam Lafferty, Erik Gustafsson and now Luke Schenn have joined Toronto via trade.

In the transaction, the Canucks acquired a 3rd Round Pick in this year's draft, which is presumed to be of the deepest draft talent wise since 2015. They now count 7 picks in the four first rounds of this year's amateur selection.

The NHL has released an official statement in regards to the trade who sent Luke Schenn back to his former loves. The Maple Leafs had selected Schenn with the 5th overall selection of the 2008 Draft. He took part in 310 games with the club during his time there and will definitely try and help them add a 3rd Stanley Cup ring to his collection.

Schenn will most likely be hitting the market on July 1st, should the Canucks try and re-sign him? It's been stated that he loves Vancouver, but the organization, and the core leadership group in the room have openly stated they loved Schenn (Pettersson, Hughes, Tocchet).
