According to intel gathered by the Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Flames have made it known that they'd be listening to offers on four of their star players amid a rebuild.
After trading away key players with expiring contracts, such as Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm, Chris Tanev, and Nikita Zadorov, the Flames are now taking offers for Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau, Rasmus Andersson, and Mackenzie Weegar.
When Johnny Gaudreau left via free agency, and Stanley Cup Winner Matthew Tkachuk made it known he wanted out, the Flames turned the boat around rather quickly and made significant acquisitions. Unfortunately, it turned into hell for them.
Gaudreau's departure resulted in a $49M deal for Nazem Kadri, and the Matthew Tkachuk trade resulted in Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar carrying a $16.75M yearly cap hit for the next four years.
While the addition of either Jonathan Huberdeau or Nazem Kadri is implausible for the Canucks, due to a variety of obvious reasons, adding either Mackenzie Weegar or Rasmus Andersson shouldn't be crossed off their list.
Both right-handed shot men not only play in a Canucks area of need but there also experienced, capable two-way defensemen who can hold their own on any team's top pair. Does it mean a match between the Canucks and the Flames is intended to be? Not necessarily, but if they find a way to work around Andersson's $4.5M cap hit or Weegar's $6.25M, the Canucks could very well be completing another trade with their divisional rival.
