One goaltender to watch on the trade market this summer is former Vancouver Canuck Jacob Markstrom and multiple teams may already have interest in his services.

During a recent edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman linked Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. However, more teams in need of goaltending help will likely get involved as the weeks go by and we head towards the draft and free agency.

One team that didn't get strong goaltending at the most important time of the year was the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a tough year for Frederik Andersen, who missed time with a blood clotting issue, but was strong in the regular season and partly in the playoffs, other than their second round series against the New York Rangers.

The Hurricanes have three goaltenders signed for 2024-25 - Frederik Andersen, Pyotr Kochetkov & Spencer Martin, but there's no question that Rod Brind'Amour's group can't go into next season with the status quo between the pipes.

On Monday morning, the 'Locked On Hurricanes' podcast suggested a massive trade proposal that would see the Hurricanes add Jacob Markstrom and Andrew Mangiapane for Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi, while both teams swapped a pair of picks as well.

"Here is what the trade proposal could look like between #CauseChaos & #Flames that includes Martin Necas & Jacob Markstrom."

To Calgary: Martin Necas, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, 2024 second round pick, 2025 fourth round pick.

To Carolina: Jacob Markstrom, Andrew Mangiapane, 2024 second round pick (via DAL), 2025 conditional third round pick.

Hypothetically if this trade were to happen, it would be extremely beneficially for both the Hurricanes and Flames. For Carolina, they get a proven number one goaltender, along with a top-six forward who has the potential of reaching 20 or more goals, depending on who he plays with.

As for the Calgary Flames, they get a pair of young forwards including pending restricted free agent forward Martin Necas who is two seasons removed from a career-year. This past season he was still strong, scoring 24 goals in 77 games. Jesperi Kotkaniemi is the most interesting part of this proposed deal. It's clear he needs a fresh start and he hasn't been what the Hurricane were hoping for when they offer sheeted the Montreal Canadiens for him in 2021.
