According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes are willing to trade the signing rights to pending unrestricted free agent forward Jake Guentzel before July 1st. This move would give the acquiring team an opportunity to get a contract signed ahead of the free agency window opening on Canada Day.
Friedman went on to add that the cost to acquire the signing rights of Jake Guentzel is expected to be a mid-round pick, which the Canucks have a couple of in 2024 - third rounder and fourth rounder.
While there's no doubt that the Vancouver Canucks and Patrik Allvin will be all over this, trying to get something done whether it be by trading for his signing rights or trying to ink him to a contract on July 1st, one team Friedman wouldn't be surprised if they land Guentzel is the Chicago Blackhawks.
Friedman recently made his 'bold prediction' on where he thinks Guentzel ends up and he mentioned the Chicago Blackhawks because they're looking for a winger to play alongside North Vancouver native Connor Bedard.
We'll have to wait and see where things go on this front in the coming days and weeks, but as mentioned, there's no question that Allvin and the Canucks will be in the mix after missing out on Guentzel at the trade deadline in March.
Should the Canucks try to trade for Guentzel's rights or wait until he's an FA on July 1st? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below!
