With four coaching changes already being made in the NHL during the 2023-24 season, a fifth could be in order if the New Jersey Devils continue to play as they have been.
During Friday's 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned that he's heard rumours that Lindy Ruff is in trouble in New Jersey. He added that many believed former Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green, who was hired as an associate coach in the offseason, was brought in as a 'coach in waiting', meaning he could be in line to take over for Ruff.
Green, 53, spent parts of five seasons being the bench in Vancouver, coaching in 314 regular season games where the Canucks had a record of 133-147-34 and led the team to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2020 where they lost to the Vegas Golden Knights.
It'll be interesting to see how the New Jersey Devils perform over the next little while and given that Travis Green was only brought in over the summer, there's a good chance that if Lindy Ruff does eventually get fired, Green will remain on in either his current role or promoted to head coach.
