Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green may be in line to be the permanent bench boss of the New Jersey Devils next season.

During Thursday's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun said that while Travis Green is not a 'slam dunk' to be the permanent head coach of the New Jersey Devils next season, he's certainly a serious candidate.

"Not quite, and my sense from talking to the Devils is that Green is a serious candidate, absolutely. They love what he's done since taking over for Lindy Ruff. The Devils feel that they're a different team, they play differently, but GM Tom Fitzgerald will probably still look at some different candidates, just to have a thorough process here in terms of naming a head coach at the end of the year. So bigger names, perhaps, like Berube, McLellan, Gerard Gallant, who hasn't coached all year, those are all possibilities but yes, Green is very much a possibility." LeBrun said.

Green, 53, was hired by the New Jersey Devils in June 2023 to become an associate coach on Lindy Ruff's staff for the current season. Earlier this month, with the Devils struggling, Ruff was let go by the organization and Travis Green was promoted to head coach on an interim basis.

The Castlegar, British Columbia native spent parts of five seasons as a head coach with the Vancouver Canucks between the 2017-18 and 2021-22 campaigns, where he had a record of 133-147-34 in 314 games. 25 games into the 2021-22 season, with the Vancouver Canucks sitting at a record of 8-15-2, the team fired Travis Green.
