Alexis Lafreniere done with the Rangers: Fans are asking for him to be cut
The 2020 first overall pick, Alexis Lafreniere, maybe on his way out of New York. The 21-year-old is entering his fourth season with the Rangers. The Quebec native has recorded 91 points in 216 games.
While those numbers aren't bad, Lafreniere has struggled to meet the expectations of being a first overall pick. To add to the fans dismay, Lafreniere has had a tough preseason and was demoted to the third line in preseason.
Lafreniere played in the preseason game against the Islanders and had a particularly lazy back check. He has mostly looked unengaged for most of the preseason.
He was also taken off the teams pp as well to go along with his demotion in the preseason.
It is clear that Lafreniere is running out of time in New York. He was already linked the multiple trade rumours last season, especially after the previous Gerard Gallant had him scratched one night.
While the new coach, Peter Laviolette, has openly stated that the youngster would have his full confidence, efforts like this one won't get him any further.
