Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman broke the news on Tuesday afternoon that Cody Glass was headed to the Penguins - though the return for Nashville was not initially shared.
Glass was initially picked by the Vegas Golden Knights 6th overall in 2017 as their first ever selection as an NHL team, expected to be a future top six fixture for the new team.
After bouncing between Vegas and their AHL affiliate for a couple seasons, Glass was moved to Nashville with Philippe Myers as part of a three way deal that saw Ryan Ellis move to Philly and Nolan Patrick move to the Golden Knights.
It's a trade that, somehow, everybody lost, as two of the players involved have since retired and in total between the four players - only 193 total NHL games have been played since 2021/22 when the trade first happened.
Glass has been the brightest spot of the trade, in 2022/23 his 35 points in 72 games provided reason for optimism, but injuries and poor play last season dampened expectations and the 25 year old played just 41 games.
Now on his third team in four years, Glass will look to get his career back on track playing behind NHL legends in Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
With the Predators spending more money than anyone on free agents this summer, they were set to be over the salary cap and moving Glass' $2.5 million will make them cap compliant.
