While the NHL's eyes are currently on Toronto and the 2024 All-Star Weekend, this past week, there was plenty of action in the American Hockey League and unfortunately, Vancouver's affiliate in Abbotsford is dealing with some injury issues.

Abbotsford Canucks head coach Jeremy Colliton met with the media recently to update the status of Akito Hirose and Christian Wolanin, both of whom have missed significant time with injury - 22 and 13 games respectively.

While he didn't get into the specifics of either Hirose or Wolanin's injuries, Colliton told reporters that both players will be out long-term.

"Jeremy Colliton says both Akito Hirose and Christian Wolanin's injuries can be classified as «long term».

Hirose has missed the last 22 games, Wolanin the last 13 games.

Hirose, 24, has appeared in 13 games for the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks this season, as well as three games in Vancouver, but hasn't recorded any points.

Wolanin, 28, was having a great season before getting sidelined with his injury. In 32 games this season, the Quebec native has 22 points (three goals, 19 assists), 18 penalty minutes and has an even-rating.

It's unfortunate to see that Hirose and Wolanin are facing even more time on the sidelines, but all Canucks fans are hoping they heal up soon and will be get back into game action before the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
