It can't be argued that Nikita Zadorov has been a great addition to the Canucks' blueline. The big-format defender has fit in nicely ever since the Canucks sent a 3rd and a 5th Round Pick to acquire his services. Recent developments regarding his next deal have been causing some questioning, and he may just be pricing himself right out of Vancouver.

ZADOROV LOOKING FOR A GIGANTIC PAYDAY?

Zadorov reportedly asked for a trade out of Calgary because the two parties couldn't even agree on the baselines of a possible extension. Because of this, an offer was never laid out. Frank Seravalli joined the Sekeres and Price show earlier and revealed what he had heard, how Zadorov sees himself and what he was looking for on his next deal:

"A lot of teams, on an independent basis, view his a 3rd-pair d-man...he thinks he's getting some kind of payday...that's the sense I get, he's looking for like a 5x5."

Zadorov is in the last season of a two-year deal with a $3.75M cap hit. While he's been doing well on the team's third pairing, could he take another responsibility? More ice-time? Despite everything he brings, a $5M cap hit on a third pairing isn't good money management, as we've seen with Tyler Myers.

There is concern that with the extensions coming up for many players, but mainly Elias Pettersson and Filip Hronek, there may not be this much money on the table for Zadorov. But even if they found a way to fit everyone under the salary cap, should they spend $5M a year on Zadorov?
