After missing the last two seasons due to complications from COVID-19, former Vancouver Canucks forward Brandon Sutter attempted to return to the National Hockey League this year.

Sutter signed a professional tryout contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Throughout training camp and preseason games, he performed pretty well, and it was looking like he was going to make the team's opening night roster.

But on Sunday, it was announced that Sutter was being released from his professional tryout contract and retiring from professional hockey, a move that shocked many people at the time. But we now know why Sutter decided to hang up the skates.

According to Sportsnet's Mark Spector, Brandon Sutter called a meeting with Oilers GM Ken Holland, Head Coach Jay Woodcroft and the team's trainer to say he could not continue his PTO due to health concerns.

Brandon Sutter called a meeting Sunday in Seattle with Oilers GM Ken Holland, head coach Jay Woodcroft and trainer TD Forss to tell them he could not continue his PTO.

Holland: "He had health concerns and just felt that he was going to end his career."
Long Covid...

Everyone here at Canucks Daily sends their best wishes to Brandon Sutter in retirement and hopes he'll be able to tackle his health concerns very soon.
