The Vancouver Canucks handled the Edmonton Oilers with ease on Wednesday night, downing them by a score of 8 to 1. What was even more impressive about the game, other than Boeser's four goals, was the fact the Canucks were playing a man down due to injury and their cap situation, and they could still dominate.
Due to injuries, last night, the Canucks were without Teddy Blueger and Ilya Mikheyev on forward, which, on paper, looks like it would have hurt them, depth-wise. Still, they could do just fine without either of them, although fans are hoping both can return as soon as they're healthy.
But according to Patrick Johnston of The Province, the Canucks are using an emergency call-up through a clause in the CBA.
Johnston said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday that the Canucks are bringing up Jack Studnicka from Abbotsford and under a clause in the CBA, he won't have a cap hit because it's an emergency call-up.
"NHL roster report shows Canucks have called up Jack Studnicka.
Because of injuries and their cap situation, Canucks played a forward short last night, so Studnicka's recall uses the Roster Emergency Exception in the CBA article 50.10(e) meaning he doesn't have a cap hit." Johnston said.
Shortly after Johnston's report, the Canucks made the news official, calling up Jack Studnicka under emergency conditions.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Jack Studnicka has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL) under emergency conditions."
Studnicka will join the Canucks for practice on Thursday and Friday before the team heads off to Edmonton, Alberta, for their second game of the season against the Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada.
