It has been announced today that veteran defensemen Derek Forbort has officially rejoined the Vancouver Canucks after taking a sudden leave of absence due to the sad new that his father Keith Forbort has passed away.

11 Days ago, Derek Forbort announced he was leaving the team for personal reasons, and the reasons for his departure were rightfully never disclosed for his privacy. Now, it was sadly revealed that his father, Keith Forbort passed away after a battle with colon cancer, he was just 62-years-old.

With the news of his dad's passing, Canucks fans have rushed to social media to send their prayers and condolences, it has been very moving to say the least.

«Welcoming» is a great description of Keith as he made anyone around him feel important, whether that was the kids in his class, or friends he was hosting. He loved the annual camping trip with a special group of friends, and watching his boys' games (usually from the corner). He was loved and adored by his family, many friends, students, fellow teachers, and the many players he coached over the years.

Keith was a beloved and popular elementary school teacher in Duluth, Minnesota, and is survived by his wife Mary, and their children Derek, Nick, and Jack (significant other Anna Rauzi), siblings Gary (Natalie), Scott (Sonja Helland), and Brenda (Jeff) Cerkvenik, father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Janet Schramm, other beloved family, friends, and the family dog, Zoe.

The Canucks are glad to have him back, but everyone here at Canucks Daily would like to send our most sincere, heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Derek, and the entire Forbort family during this difficult time.
