Former Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson has decided to call time on his professional hockey career following 16 seasons in the NHL.

In early January, former Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Chiasson announced his retirement from hockey and one month later, another Vancouver Canucks alumni has decided to hang up the skates as well.

In a social media post from the National Hockey League on Monday evening, it was announced that former Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson was retiring from professional hockey at the age of 39.
"After 1,050 games, Loui Eriksson is hanging up the skates.

Best of luck in retirement! 👏" the NHL said.
Eriksson's career began with the Dallas Stars, who selected him 33rd overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and he'd go on to spend seven seasons in the Lone Star State.
In July 2013, Eriksson was traded to the Boston Bruins as part of the package for former second overall pick Tyler Seguin and after three seasons with the B's, he became an unrestricted free agent.
When July 1st 2016 rolled around, there was plenty of interest in Loui Eriksson from teams around the National Hockey League after recording his second career 30+ goal season in 2015-16, but it was the Vancouver Canucks who signed him for six years with an AAV of $6 million USD.
There was plenty of hope that Eriksson could inject some offense into the Vancouver Canucks' top-six but the contract came back to bite them as 252 games with the club, he only registered 38 goals and 52 assists.
After the 2021 season, where he spent all but seven games on Vancouver's taxi squad, the Canucks dealt him, along with Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle in a package to Arizona for Conor Garland and Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
The Stockholm, Sweden native would spent just one season with the Arizona Coyotes before becoming a UFA and signing with Frolunda HC in the SHL for the 2022-23 season, which would ultimately be the last of his professional hockey career.
Everyone here at Canucks Daily would like to congratulate Loui Eriksson on a solid professional hockey career and wish him all the best in retirement.
