There's no shortage of rumors surrounding the Vancouver Canucks these days, with the potential for them to be not only active, but aggressive on the National Hockey League's trade market before the deadline in March.

One area the Vancouver Canucks would like to address is their top-four defensive group, and that may have escalated to a whole new level following upper and lower-body injuries to Filip Hronek, who is set to miss the next eight weeks.

Over the last little while, the Vancouver Canucks have been linked to a number of players on the blueline, have been linked to a number of players on the blue line, including Marcus Pettersson of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who might be a hot commodity in the coming months.

Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford recent shut down rumors, saying that they're not in a rush to make a trade at this time, hoping that someone on the roster can step up and fill the void left by Filip Hronek.

Darren Dreger says Patrik Allvin working the phone lines regarding trades

TSN insider Darren Dreger was a guest on Sekeres and Price on Monday where he talked about the Vancouver Canucks' pursuit on the trade market to make an addition to their roster.

Dreger said that General Manager Patrik Allvin has been working the phone lines to see what's out there and what options he may have, especially if the team decides to make a move in the near future.

"Patrik Allvin is busting the phone lines and that always sounds like the obvious, but you know, you kind of started this off talking about defense and how sketchy it is right now in Vancouver.

Well look, the Canucks GM is, I can't be specific to any guy, but needless to say he's trying to make deals. The problem is you've got so many teams that are lumped into that same group in both conferences that are 3,4,5 points out of a playoff spot and you know, 3 to 6 points of one another.

So unless you're putting a whole bunch of assets out there, the way that the Minnesota Wild did in acquiring David Jiricek from the Columbus Blue Jackets. I think teams like Nashville, maybe Montreal, who in fairness, the Montreal Canadiens have played better of late.

They've got a a little bit more going right now in Montreal, which is taking some of the heat off management in Montreal, but there too is a team that's certainly eager." Dreger said.

He added, "So, it just feels to me like anything meaningful is probably going to have to wait until the New Year and maybe even early into the second half."

We'll have to wait and see what Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks have planned in terms of upgrading at certain positions on the NHL roster, with action likely to pick up on that front early on in 2025, potentially in the window between the end of the 4 Nations Face-Off and the trade deadline on Friday, March 7th.
