Insider gives update on Lindholm's chances of staying in Vancouver
Over the coming weeks, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin is going to be extremely busy as himself, along with the management group, decide what to do with their pending unrestricted free agents.
Among those who are set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st is
Elias Lindholm, who the Canucks got in a trade with the Calgary Flames earlier this season. The Canucks paid a hefty price to get Lindholm from the Flames and during the regular season, he didn't play well for Vancouver.
Once the playoffs hit, Lindholm was a lot better, getting into board battles and being physical, making smart plays and contributed offensively, even scoring the overtime winner in Game 4 of their first-round series against the Nashville Predators.
This summer's free agent market is pretty thin down the middle, which will make Elias Lindholm a hot commodity, but it does appear that the Canucks will at least attempt to bring him back.
According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic & TSN, the Canucks will make a strong push to re-sign Elias Lindholm, but they made be priced out, forcing the Swedish forward to hit the open market on Canada Day.
"I do believe the Canucks make a strong push to re-sign Lindholm, which may mean having to clear more space out. But I suspect the 29-year-old's price will be too high for him resist going to market. He should receive tremendous interest given the scarcity at his position and his skill set." LeBrun said.
Lindholm, 29, appeared in 26 games for the Canucks during the regular season where he put up 12 points (six goals, six assists), four penalty minutes and was a minus-six. He went on to add ten points (five goals, five assists) in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
It'll be interesting to see how negotiations go with the Canucks and Lindholm's camp over the coming weeks, but it does feel like his short time in Vancouver will come to an end and he'll hit the open market on July 1st.
