There had been lots of speculation that the Canucks had been poking around on the goaltending market, but the confirmation finally came.

The week started rough for the Canucks when it was revealed that Thatcher Demko would most likely not participate in the team's training camp and perhaps even miss the season debut.

Rick Dahliwal finally adressed the situation and confirmed that the concern in the Canucks rank was genuine; Patrik Allvin is indeed looking at the current goaltending market and has identified his top target, Kevin Lankinen. At the moment, Dhaliwal still qualified that an agreement between the two parties was far from done due to salary cap restrictions.

Lankinen had a $2M cap hit in Nashville, and given that he played well during that time, nobody expects him to take a discount. The netminder guarded the Predators' net on 24 occasions, stopped 90.8% of the pucks directed at him, and had an 11-6 record to show for it.

The Canucks still have the option of placing Tucker Poolman on the LTIR, but it seems that Allvin would much rather trade him to keep the manoeuvrability to add players down the line.

We'll monitor the situation as it moves forward, but it sounds like the Canucks are looking to add the best goaltender available, and we shouldn't expect good news regarding Thatcher Demko's health.
