In a surprising turn of events, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet will not be engaging in any contract talks with general manager Patrik Allvin until the season concludes.
Just recently, a report by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman indicated that there are no active conversations taking place between Rick Tocchet and the Vancouver Canucks, which has opened up the door for fans to speculate on his future.
"I can tell you this Rick, I really believe this very strongly, I don't think Rick Tocchet is going to allow that to be a story. I think if you look at Rick Tocchet, he's demanding a lot out of himself, he's demanding a lot out of his coaching staff and he's demanding a lot out of his players." Friedman said
Is there merit to the speculation of Rick Tocchet leaving the Vancouver Canucks?
'll get [done at] the appropriate time. That's really what it is. I can't really concentrate on that stuff. Every day we come in, we're really concentrated on a lot of different things. I'm very comfortable, and I think they [are], too. That when it's appropriate time, we can spend some time and really dive in [on] where we're going, what we're going to do, and things like that. I think that's really the best answer I can give you guys.
But is he telling the truth on why he won't engage in contract negotiations?
The fact of the matter is, Tocchet is Jack Addams ward winning coach, and the amount of teams that will be lining up to hire him in the offseason is insane.
"I can tell you this with absolute certainty. There are teams, right now, that would fire their coach into the sun to get their hands on Rick Tocchet."

With all that has happened this season, which has made his job here very difficult, the speculation of him wanting to test the market before returning to the Canucks is a very real possibility.
With their overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, The Canucks are currently out of a playoff spot and fighting for the last wild card in the West.
If they do end up not securing a ticket to the postseason, it is almost guaranteed that he will be moving on.
