2 x All-Star Brock Boeser is entering the final season of his 3-year/ in the final season of a three-year deal worth $19,950,000. The deal carries an AAV (average annual value) average of $6.65 million.
Clearly, the Canucks want to sign him to a deal similar to what he has been earning, and also lock him up before he reaches free agency, but it will likely not be case due to his career year in 2023-2024.
Last season Boeser impressed with a major break out year scoring 40 goals and 33 assists for 73 points in 81 games.
What Deal Makes Sense for Brock Boeser?
As reported last week, Trusted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Florida Panthers locked up 40-goal scorer Carter Verhaeghe to an 8-year contract extension worth $7M AAV. In total, the contract will pay out $56MM, but $46MM of which coming from bonuses. It would make sense that Brock Boeser would earn in the ballpark of that same number considering their close comparables.
Initially reported by Mark Easson of NHL Rumors, David Pagnotta and Dennis Benstein of The Fourth Period, they discussed Boeser's contract and future with the team during the opening week.
Pagnotta reported that the talks between Boeser and the Vancouver Canucks are very loose and sparring, he expects that the negotiations and talks will become more serious as the NHL season progresses. But it seems, there is no rush for a deal to get finalized at this time.
