On a recent edition of the Missin Curfew podcast, hosted by former NHLers Shane O'Brien and Scottie Upshall, the pair discussed which teams should go with a retro rebrand and they mentioned the Vancouver Canucks, along with the Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues.
The Vancouver Canucks have had their fair share of unique uniforms in franchise history since entering the National Hockey League back in 1970, but there's one logo that stands above them all among the fans and that's the Skate.
Vancouver wore their Skate uniforms from 1985 to 1997 and during that team, they have different jerseys with that logo. It started out in 1985 with gold and black as the primary colours for their home and away uniforms, before shifting to black (with different striping) and white in 1989. In 1995, the Canucks debuted a red and black Skate uniform that was worn until 1997, when the team rebranded to the Orca logo.
As Shane O'Brien mentioned, it's time for the Canucks to go back to the Skate uniforms on a full-time basis and for them to introduce a new white jersey to go with the already existing black one that they brought back as an alternate in January 2023. There are plenty of Canucks fans that still like the blue, white and green Orca uniforms, so possibly it could stay as an alternate, if they ever decide to rebrand back to the Skate jerseys.
