We're nearly two months away from the start of the Vancouver Canucks' 2024-25 season, which comes on October 9th at Rogers Arena against the Calgary Flames and it's set to be an exciting campaign.
Patrik Allvin was quite busy early on in free agency, bringing in Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, Derek Forbort, Kiefer Sherwood, Vincent Desharnais, Jiri Patera, Nathan Smith and Daniel Sprong. It's safe to say that Allvin has addressed nearly every need the Canucks had going into the summer, especially with the addition of Jake DeBrusk, who will play a key role in the team's top-six, likely alongside Elias Pettersson.
In a recent article on NHL.com, Kevin Woodley shared what he thinks the Canucks' lineup will look like on opening night in October. On the forward group, Woodley has Jake DeBrusk and Daniel Sprong on the second line, with Elias Pettersson at center, while Danton Heinen and Kiefer Sherwood are on the fourth line, with Pius Suter in the middle.
As for the defensive core, who lost Nikita Zadorov and Ian Cole this summer, the top-four remains untouched, while the third pairing features two new additions - Derek Forbort and Vincent Desharnais.
Woodley also believes that Arturs Silovs will win the backup job behind Thatcher Demko to start the season. Silovs will be battling with Jiri Patera in training camp for that role, but has the inside edge given how well he played during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It's going to be interesting to see how the new additions fit in to start the 2024-25 campaign and if they're able to help the Canucks reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second consecutive season.
