Vancouver's first round series against the Nashville Predators went about exactly has many were suggesting. With Nashville's strong end to the 2023-24 regular season, experts were expecting them to put up a big fight and they did and deserve a ton of credit for how they played.
At the end of the day, the Canucks' depth got it done, along with 23-year-old Arturs Silovs, who picked up a shutout in the series-clinching game on Friday. In doing so, Silovs became the youngest goaltender in Canucks history to record a playoff shutout.
This year's Stanley Cup Playoffs marks the first time in 32 years that the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers will face each other in the post-season. In 1992, the Canucks and Oilers met in the Division Finals, with Edmonton winning that series in six games.
There was plenty of speculation on when the second round series would begin and due to a Pearl Jam concert, Rogers Arena wouldn't be available to the Canucks until either Sunday or Tuesday for Game 1. The NHL wasn't going to give only one off-day between series' for the Canucks and according to Sportsnet's John Shannon, Game 1 is set for Tuesday, May 7th.
Much like they did with the Nashville Predators, the Vancouver Canucks swept the season series against the Edmonton Oilers, outscoring them 21 to 7 in their four games against each other. Brock Boeser led the way on the goal scoring front with six tallies, including a four-goal performance in the season opener, while Quinn Hughes had eight points in the four games.
