Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford doesn't believe that his comments will affect the team going forward as we get closer to the NHL's trade deadline, which is set for March 7th.

In an interview with The Globe and Mail on Tuesday, Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford confirmed there's a rift between J.T. Miller & Elias Pettersson and that there's no good solution to keep this group together.

Jim Rutherford clarifies his comments from The Globe and Mail

As expected, Jim Rutherford's comments made national headlines here in Canada and while it was suspected for a long time that there's been a rift between the two forwards, it was more shocking to hear that confirmation from him.
Not only was it a shock to hear the confirmation about a rift, but the fact Rutherford went as far as saying that there's no good solution to keep this current group together isn't what Vancouver Canucks fans wanted to hear.
Following his talk with The Globe and Mail, Rutherford sat down for an interview with Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet where he mentioned that he doesn't believe his comments will affect the team.
"What I said, everybody knows it doesn't put Toc or the players in any different position," Rutherford said. "They've been dealing with it. This is nothing new to them.

He added, "There's no reason for them to feel any different than they've felt all along. What I have now said publicly, which pretty much everybody knew anyways (except) no one would say it, nothing has changed for the players because the players have dealt with this every day."

Despite trade rumors surrounding members of the Vancouver Canucks, including J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson and even pending UFA Brock Boeser, Jim Rutherford wouldn't commit to a trade and said they'll do what's best for the team.
"We'll deal with our team as normal as we can under these circumstances. And it's what I said earlier: If something makes sense for the Canucks (in a trade), we'll take a look at it, and if it doesn't, the players will stay and continue to try to work through this situation." Rutherford said.

The NHL's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season is just 37 days away and it could end up being a busy one for Rutherford and Patrik Allvin, depending on how the team performs between now and then.
