Vancouver fans get first-look at Jonathan Lekkerimaki in Canucks uniform

Vancouver fans got their first-look at Jonathan Lekkerimaki in a full Canucks uniform at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase on Wednesday.

The NHLPA Rookie Showcase was held on Wednesday at the Washington Capitals' practice facility in Arlington, Virginia and it featured several of the league's top prospects. The showcase gave Upper Deck, the title sponsor, an opportunity to photograph these top prospects for hockey cards for the 2024-25 season.

While not every team had a representative at the showcase, the Vancouver Canucks did and that was 2022 first-round pick Jonathan Lekkerimaki, who is entering his first full season here in North America.

Fans were given a look at Jonathan Lekkerimaki in a full Vancouver Canucks uniform for the first team and were also shown which number he will wear - 23, which was last worn by Elias Lindholm during the 2023-24 campaign.

Jonathan Lekkerimaki will head into training camp in a couple of weeks with the goal of making the Vancouver Canucks' opening night roster. While it'll be tough for him to do so, mainly because of the depth the team has, if he has a strong showing, it wouldn't be too surprising to see him in the lineup on October 9th against the Calgary Flames.

The Tullinge, Sweden native will need to prove himself to the coaching staff, who will give him a ton of opportunities during the preseason, which begins for the Canucks on September 24 against the Seattle Kraken.

If he's unable to earn a roster spot on opening night, a stint down in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford wouldn't be a bad thing for his development. There's no doubt that at some point this season, Lekkerimaki will be called up and make his NHL debut.
