Last night, the Vancouver Canucks made some noise on the National Hockey League's trade market by dealing Daniel Sprong to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for future considerations.
The Vancouver Canucks have been tight to the salary cap since the start of the 2024-25 season and with this recent trade, they just got a little more wiggle room if Patrik Allvin wanted to make another addtion.
By trading Daniel Sprong to the Seattle Kraken and not taking on another contract, the Vancouver Canucks were able to save $975,000 against the cap and according to PuckPedia, the Canucks have $2,305,780 in available space right now.
While an extra $975,000 in cap space is nice, it's probably not the only reason as to why Vancouver moved on from Daniel Sprong after just nine games as a Canuck. Sprong was scratched on a few occasions during the month of October and during Thursday's win over Los Angeles, he was limited to just 9:32 of ice time, his second-lowest TOI of the season.
Sprong fell out of order in Vancouver, his play through nine games likely wasn't what the team was hoping for. With younger players in Abbotsford playing well enough to be called up (Bains, Raty, Aman for example) and Jonathan Lekkerimaki soon to follow, there wasn't going to be a place for Daniel Sprong, hence why Patrik Allvin opted to move him now.
