LATEST | Former Canucks coach Marc Crawford loses it on the referee and make slur comment; league now investigating
Former player and coach of the Vancouver Canucks, Marc Crawford, has always been known for his temper. Again he proved that on some occasions, it was better to restrain from comments since events in his team's latest game have forced the league to investigate him.
He now coaches the ZSC Lions in Switzerland and in his team last game he was caught screaming not really kind things at the referee. He went on a profanity-laced tirade that included a perceived homophobic slur:
"CHECK THE CLOCK, CHECK THE CLOCK, YOU'VE DONE EVERYTHING FOR THEM YOU C*CKS*CKER."
National League Director Dennis Vaucher had the opportunity to comment on Crawford's outburst:
"I actually saw this. Marc Crawford crossed a red line with these discriminatory remarks. It's not about taking the emotions out of ice hockey. It is not uncommon for players or coaches to use flowery language to address the jury. In the heat of the moment you can say 'f--k' or other words in this style. But if you attack the referee personally, as is the case here, then that's more than trash talk."
Marc Crawford has previously played and coached the Vancouver Canucks, most recently the Ottawa Senators and the Chicago Blackhawks. The former coach was named on multiples occasions in different claims of abuse and it's now hard not to believe the victims after events like this one.
