LATEST | Former Ukrainian national team member tragically passes away during war
A long-time Ukrainian League forward and former member of the country's national team, Alexander Khamil, has passed away at the age of 42 following a combat mission in the Donetsk region.
Khmil spent the majority of his playing career in Ukraine, winning a league championship with ATEK Kyiv back in 2006-07. He appeared in 223 Ukrainian League games across parts of 12 seasons, where he recorded 213 points.
He represented Ukraine on a handful of occasions, including at the top division of the World Junior Hockey Championship in 2000, where he put up two points in seven games, but ultimately, they got relegated after losing two-game, most-goals series to Slovakia by a score of 6-4.
After retiring, Khmil spent parts of two seasons as a head coach in the Ukrainian League with Rapid Kyiv during the 2015-16 campaign and with HC Volki Brovary in 2017-18.
Our thoughts are with Khmil's family and friends at this difficult time.
