It's no secret that the Canucks are in a tough spot salary cap-wise. Players like Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Tyler Myers, are taking large parts of the cap while their true efficiency is extremely low. Conor Garland and Brock Boeser could also be added to that conversation.
While buying out one, or some of these contract were a possibility that was evoked, Elliotte Friedman made a concerning statement in that regard pointing out that the team's ownership group weren't interested in going down that road.
If the Canucks aren't considering buyouts as an alternative, they will have to get creative, and one of the strategies they may have to pay is to rid themselves of bad contracts. Whether it's giving up a prospect, or a pick, just like the Flames did last year when they gave up Sean Monahan along with a 1st Round Pick, just to rid themselves of a $6.375M cap hit.
If the reports are true and Aquillini isn't open to writing out checks to rid the team of the bad contracts, is giving assets a better way of getting it done?
