NHL veteran Corey Perry signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks prior to this season. However, quite infamously, he would only end up playing 16 games in a Blackhawks uniform. His contract was terminated in November 2023 under mysterious and vague circumstances.

Two months later, in January, he was inked to a contract by the Edmonton Oilers for the remainder of the season. In his introductory press conference with his new team, he declined to elaborate on further details concerning his contract termination in Chicago. However, former NHL All-Star John Scott who now works with NBC Sports Chicago has alluded to further details regarding the incident:

He made a mistake in Columbus one night, he drank too much and he made a pass at a staff member who worked at NBC.

Chicago has had their fair share of controversies and off-ice scandals within the last few years, so Scott believes Perry would have received a «little slap on the wrist [like a] minor fine or suspension» had the incident occurred with another club.
