A pair of former first-round picks were among four players that were placed on the NHL's waiver wire today and are available to other teams, including the Vancouver Canucks, for free.

As we get closer and closer to the NHL's trade deadline, the waiver wire is going to get busier and after losing out on one of their former players, Travis Dermott, a little over a week ago, Patrik Allvin has a big decision to make on Thursday.

2 former first-rounders among four players placed on NHL waiver wire

In a post on social media on Wednesday, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared that defenseman Jordan Oesterle (Boston), Christian Fischer (Detroit), Jesse Puljujarvi (Florida) and Jakub Vrana (Washington) have been placed on waivers in order to assign them to their respective AHL clubs.
"Oesterle (BOS), Puljujarvi (FLA), Vrana (WASH) on waivers" Friedman said.

He added, "Fischer (DET) too"
Puljujarvi is on waivers on Wednesday after signing a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 with the Florida Panthers less than a month after landing a PTO with their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.
Puljujarvi, a former fourth overall pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2016, has appeared in 26 games in the NHL this season with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he's registered nine points (three goals, six assists), ten penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
Vrana, 29, was selected 13th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2014 and returned to the organization this fall on a PTO, which turned into a one-year contract.
In 26 games with the Capitals this season, Vrana has put up 11 points (seven goals, four assists), six penalty minutes and is a plus-six.
Fischer, 27, will play in the American Hockey League for the first time since 2016-17, if he clears waivers on Thursday at 11 am PT and so far this season, has seven points (one goal, six assists), 11 penalty minutes and is a minus-five in 45 games for Detroit.
Oesterle, a native of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, has skated in 22 games this season for the Boston Bruins where he has six points (one goal, five assists), two penalty minutes and is a plus-three.
We'll have to wait to see tomorrow morning at 11 am PT if Patrik Allvin is able to claim any of these four players off the waiver wire, or if they'll clear and head to the American Hockey League.
