All 32 teams around the National Hockey League are set to submit their opening night rosters by 2 pm PT/5 pm ET today and many are still trying to figure out their final cuts.
For the Edmonton Oilers, it appears that they're set to sign a former Vancouver Canuck for the 2024-25 season at some point on Monday, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.
In a post on social media on Monday morning, Chris Johnston of TSN announced that Travis Dermott will be sticking around with the Edmonton Oilers and a contract will be signed on Monday before the roster submission deadline.
Dermott, 27, became an unrestricted free agent back on July 1st and after going unsigned all summer, was able to land a professional tryout (PTO) with the Edmonton Oilers, allowing him to join the team for training camp and preseason games.
The Newmarket, Ontario native stood out at Oilers training camp, appearing in five games during the preseason where he had a goal, an assist and nine shots-on-goal. Dermott will likely have a limited role with the Oilers, at least to start the season, and when he does draw into the lineup, it's expected he'll be on the team's third defensive pairing.
Dermott and the Edmonton Oilers will make their first trip to Rogers Arena on Saturday, November 9th on Hockey Night in Canada. It'll also be the first meeting, other than preseason, between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks since Game 7 of the second round in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so it should be a pretty intense contest.
