LATEST | NHL hands down first suspension of 2023-24 to Los Angeles Kings forward
The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has announced the first suspension of the 2023-24 season, which is set to get underway in less than one week.
On Thursday, the Department of Player Safety announced that Los Angeles Kings forward Arthur Kaliyev has been suspended for two preseason games and two regular season games for kneeing Anaheim Ducks forward Chase De Leo.
The incident occurred early on in the second period of a game between Los Angeles and Anaheim on Tuesday night. De Leo was trying to get the puck out of his zone when Kaliyev comes in, sticking out his knee and making contact with the Ducks forward's left knee. Kaliyev received a two-minute minor for kneeing on the play.
Kaliyev, 22, will now miss Los Angeles' final two preseason games against San Jose and Vegas, as well as the first two games of the 2023-24 regular season against the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes. He'll be eligible to return to the lineup on Tuesday, October 17th against the Winnipeg Jets.
