MAJOR | Senators defenceman destroyed along the wall: Leaves on a stretcher appearing to be unconscious
The Sens travelled to New York, where they had a meeting with the Islanders. Midway through the game, Erik Branstrom went down, and we witnessed a very unfortunate scary sequence.
HIT HARD: LEAVING ON A STRETCHER
Erik Branstrom was skating the puck up ice and was caught by a late hit coming from the veteran Cal Clutterbuck. While the hit seemed fined from our angle, the way Branstrom went down clearly wasn't:
''VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED:
Erik Brannstrom makes a play along the boards but is closed off by Cal Clutterbuck.
Brannstrom seems to have suffered a severe injury on the way down from the hit. Team medical staff tending to him now.'' A stretcher was needed to carry him off the ice:
''Injury seems to take place to the head as Brannstrom is on the way down.
Seemingly knocked unconscious after hitting the ice.''
NHL TO ISSUE A PUNISHMENT?
At first, it seems like a stretch to call this hit suspension worthy. However late hits can be really damageble to certain teams as it was demonstrated by Cale Makar's hit on Jared McCann during last year's playoff. At the moment, it's too soon to say whether or not the NHL will intervene.
