The Canucks are heading into their training and the biggest interrogation mark at this point remains the contractual situation with Elias Pettersson.

The superstar Swede is coming off a spectacular 102 points season and he'll be entering the last year of a 3-year bridge deal that will make him a restricted free agent by the end of the season. The Canucks have tried to engage in talks since he is eligible to sign an extension since July 1st.

However, the Swede decide he wanted to focus on the season and see how thing unfold in Vancouver before committing for a long period of time. We've recently seen RFA's take control of the narratives (Matthew Tkachuk, Pier-Luc Dubois) and the tendency is that the team rarely wins.

Today, an article was released on Sportsnet after Iain MacIntyre had a chat with the team's GM, Patrik Allvin. When asked about his confidence regarding Pettersson's future in Vancouver, the GM did not seem worried at all. He even added that there was a possibility that an extension could be happening during the season even though Pettersson's party said they intended on waiting until the end of the season:

'Absolutely. I know that Elias is happy here, happy with how we want to play, the additions we got and the direction.»

Allvin was hired as the team's GM just over a year ago and we're finally starting to see the type of team he wants to showcase on the ice. It's fair to say that this team's retooling depends a ton on Elias Pettersson, can the Canucks manage to keep him? Or will he end up elsewhere the former captain Bo Horvat?
