BREAKING | Patrik Allvin announce huge signing: Coveted right-handed headed to Vancouver
The Canucks just took everyone by surprise with a breaking announcement. Patrik Allvin came out and announced via the team's X account that the Canucks had agreed to terms for a contract with the NCAA Senior Christian Felton:
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Christian Felton on a one-year, entry-level contract.
In the Canucks' press release Patrik Allvin issued his first comments on the team's newest acquisition:
"We are happy to have Christian join our organization," said Allvin. "We brought him into our development camp last summer and have closely monitored his progress. We look forward to working with him and helping Christian adjust as he starts his pro hockey career."
Right-handed shot defenceman, à position of need in the Canucks' depth chart. He stands at 6'1" and weighs 190 pounds. He spent the last four years of his development at the College Level, where he played 98 games between Merrimack College and Bentley Univeristy. He posted 17 points and 44 penalty minutes through that time. Due to the impressive fact that he led Merrimacks' defenders with 55 block shots, I'd say he has the potential to be a modern-day shutdown blueliner.
The Canucks made a few last-minute acquisitions via the NCAA free agents last season; Akito Hirose, Cole McWard, and Max Sasson have all been significant assets to the team. Hopefully, the team will keep growing from within, and Felton can develop into that core.
