The 2023-24 season may have just ended nearly three weeks ago, but it's never too early to take a look at next year and what possibilities may lay ahead for teams and players around the National Hockey League.
On Monday in a post on social media, the National Hockey League shared FanDuel's odds to win the Norris Trophy next season, which is handed out annually to the best defenceman. Last season, Quinn Hughes took home his first Norris Trophy after receiving 172 first-place votes.
As of yesterday, FanDuel has Quinn Hughes tied for the second-best odds at +600 with New York Rangers defenceman Adam Fox. Meanwhile, Colorado Avalanche star Cale Makar is the favourite at +300, who will be looking for his second Norris Trophy next season as well.
Hughes, 24, had a fantastic 2023-24 campaign, setting new career-highs in goals, assists and points while appearing in all 82 regular season games. The 2018 seventh-overall pick put up 92 points (17 goals, 75 assists), 38 penalty minutes and was a plus-38. He went on to add ten assists in 13 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Canucks fans are looking forward to seeing what Quinn Hughes has in store for 2024-25 and if he'll be able to become just the seventh defenceman in NHL history to record 100 or more points in a single season.
