According to projections from AFP Analytics, the forward is likely to get nearly $4 million on a 4 year deal on his upcoming contract.

While losing him as a versatile depth piece would hurt the Canucks, they may have no choice but to let Suter walk if he is looking for the pay day he is likely to get on the open market.

While the cap is rising, the Canucks have extensions set to kick in next year that will make their salary cap situation tighter, and they will also have to contend with the cap hit from the Oliver Ekman-Larsson buyout doubling for the next two seasons.

Suter has earned his chance to chase a payday, and it seems like it might have to be elsewhere than in Vancouver.
