The NHL only allows 23 players on the club's roster and sometimes that leads to tough decisions like the one the Red Wings made earlier today.

Elliotte Friedman just announced that forward Jakub Vrana has been put on waiver by the Detroit Red Wings and is therefore available to all the other clubs. He was down in Grand Rapids on loan for a conditioning stint after going through the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

Vrana was acquired by the Red Wings during the 2020-2021 campaign in a trade that notably included Anthony Mantha. Vrana's had issues with injuries since arriving in Detroit, taking part in only 39 games over the last 2 and half years. Through his time with the Wings, the winger registered 32 points. The scouting report on him we're quite intriguing in 2014, his draft year:

''An offensively skilled winger. Vrana is a good skater, works hard for the puck, and has good technical skills. Is a capable goal scorer with a quick release and a nose for the net.''

EP, 2014

Vrana has a $5.25M AAV until the end of 2024. Since he entered the league in 2016 he managed 189 points in 323 games. He was initially drafted by the Washington Capitals with the 13th overall pick in 2014. Could the Canucks be tempted to claim him?
