In this afternoon's Press Conference, Patrik Allvin pointed out a conversation he had with Tocchet prior to his hiring. Tocchet wanted to know whether they planning to go with him for the long run or if he was just a quick fix just like Boudreau was last-year.
To the information the team has given, it appears that the Canucks intend on building their future with Rick Tocchet as their Head Coach, though the details of his contract have just been made available and it's not adding up to what's previously been said. Per Kevin Weekes, here are the main details of the deal Tocchet inked:
Tocchet will be under contract until 2025, which isn't really a long-term deal. Would the Canucks be reticent to tie him to the franchise for a longer term? Obviously, with the recent coaching history, it's definitely wise.
Though the Canucks have never openly stated that they were going to prioritize development over results like they did in this afternoon's press conference.
The Canucks have been highly criticized not only for the way they handled Boudreau's firing but also for the fact that they've employed 3 different coaches over the last 13 months. Perhaps it's time they learned to commit to a coach and the ''structure'' he believes in?
