MAJOR | MONSTER Trade proposal sending Auston Matthews to the Montreal Canadiens
After failing to make a steep playoff run yet again, the Maple Leafs are being teared apart on social medias and no name is safe from the trade talks.
Auston Matthews is in similar situation to J.T. Miller where his no movement clause will only be kicking in on July 1st giving the Leafs a short window of time to either extend him (he'll be a UFA on July 1st 2024) or move him.
Clearly TSN690 believes that the best option for the Leafs at this point is to move the superstar centerman. They suggested Montreal as a potential trade partner which would make their already exciting rivalry, even better. Here's the proposal they drew up:
TO MONTREAL
- Auston Matthews
TO TORONTO
- Cole Caufield
- Mike Matheson
- 2023 1st Round Selection MTL (5th OA)
That's a trade that would definitely shake things up in both cities, I'm not sure either market could survive the news. The young Caufield has developed into quite the goalscorer in Montreal, but he's also a fan-favourite. Toronto most likely can't handle a trade of this sort, where they move a superstar to a divisional rival.
Kyle Dubas has openly stated that no-one is deemed untouchable in Toronto, if an offer like this one is on the table, who says no?
