REPORT | Former Canucks General Manager in the mix for Flames' vacancy
With the NHL Entry Draft nearly one month away, the Calgary Flames are hoping to have a new General Manager in place by the time they head down to Nashville, where they'll hold the 16th overall pick.
During Wednesday's edition of the '32 Thoughts' podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that former Vancouver Canucks General Manager Dave Nonis is in the mix for the vacant GM role with the Flames.
"The other name I have heard there is Dave Nonis, the former Vancouver and Toronto GM, I have heard is in the mix there." Friedman said.
Nonis, 56, was hired as the Canucks' General Manager in 2004, replacing Brian Burke, and held the role until April 2008. Among the moves Nonis made as GM in Vancouver was acquiring Roberto Luongo from the Florida Panthers, as well as drafting Corey Schneider, Alex Edler and Jannik Hansen in 2004 and Mason Raymond in 2005.
