When the Canucks decide to move their star centerman, they'll have plenty of interest for sure, though Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff lists the Wild as a high-potential destination for the Canucks' captain, the fact that he is still young (27), and carries a low for the remainder of the season with a $5.5M AAV, makes him interesting for a team looking to make a steep cup run and looking to add depth in their forward group just like the Wild.
On Canucks central, Satiar Shah and Dan Riccio expanded on the subject. The Canucks have stated that they'd be looking for a centerman and a right-handed defenseman and the Wild have exactly what they need. One of the most coveted forward of the 2020 draft, Marco Rossi hasn't found his pace with the Wild but is absolutely lighting it up in the AHL. He's found his way on the scoresheet on 69 occasions after 78 games two years into his pro career. The Wild are in a win-now mode, therefore, leaving less space for inexperienced players, but a change of scenery and pressure relief would help him find his game. The 9th overall pick in 2020 had 120 points in 56 games as a 17-year-old in the OHL.
The defenseman they pointed out, the Winnipeg native, Carson Lambos. Although he's a left-handed shot, Lambos is a defenseman with great skating abilities and was selected 26th in 2021. He currently has 23 points in 28 games. The elite prospect Draft Guide described him as such:
The Wild currently holds a little over $3.7M, it's extremely feasible for them to make that trade cap-wise, and with the cap space that'll free up for the Wild on July 1st, there's even place for a potential sign and trade which would drive up the Canucks' captain value. If the Wild put these two players on the table, should the Canucks' really consider moving their captain? What else is needed to pull the trigger?
