Another way of saying that is that they are currently ranked 32 among 32 teams, after the basement dwelling roommate San Jose Sharks & Anaheim Ducks went to overtime, whacking up 3 points after a fowl victory to push them both ahead of the lowly Canucks.
So...What.Is.Happening?!
Tonight while donning their highly acclaimed Reverse Retro sweaters, the Canucks were flat out awful. Again.
They can't stop an odd man rush, they can't make smart plays in the offensive zone & they also can't get a bounce, but the hockey Gods are known to let those bounces start coming when the rest of the game comes along itself.
Exhibit A right here from Oliver Ekman-Larsson, a rumour on the blueline tonight while skating at a "glacial pace", to quote Vancouver print Icon Tony Gallagher.
Dig deeper to find a 32nd ranked Penalty Kill & it will continue to tell the story, even while converting on nearly 28% of man advantage situations.
This team is fragile.
Let's hope their fragility doesn't translate over to the classroom, as simple elementary math will have you find the Canucks are on pace for a whopping 54 points this season. Comparing that to last year's NHL Standings after 82 games, it would be good enough for sole possession of dead last...Even the lowly 'yotes piled together 57 of the most pathetic points a franchise over collected while playing in front of all 17 people in the desert.
This team is currently 2-5-2 & on pace to be worse than that one.
Let that sink in Canuck Nation. Just think though, a few more weeks of this & we can start to talk & pretend like we'll win the Draft Lottery & have Connor Bedard skating next to Elias Pettersson next fall, am I right?!
Let us know what you think this Canuck team needs to do to turn it around!
